The Katy Trail State Park is one of the largest biking and hiking trails in the United States. The trail is 225 miles long and goes from Clinton, MO to St. Charles, MO (a St. Louis suburb). The trail consists of hard packed crushed rock on top of an abandoned rail bed, the former MKT railway. The Katy Trail is extremely well maintained and managed by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. The trail is open year round during daylight hours.
